Growth opportunities for the pet industry in Southeast Asia: Review of the market development trip to Thailand

As part of the market development program of the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Protection (BMWK), a successful delegation trip of German pet companies to Thailand took place from May 19 to 23, 2025, with the participation of International Pet Business GmbH (IPB). One of the highlights of this trip was the Thai-German Conference “Pet Supplies for a Happy Life” at the Four Points by Sheraton Bangkok, which welcomed more than 100 trade visitors from business and politics.

The conference was opened with welcoming remarks by Marius Mehner, Deputy Managing Director of the German-Thai Chamber of Commerce (GTCC), and Hans-Ulrich Südbeck, Deputy Head of the German Embassy in Bangkok. Nantapol Tantiwongampai, President of the Thai Pet Product Industry Association (TPIA), gave the keynote speech and provided exciting insights into the dynamics and growth potential of the Thai pet market.

International momentum for the pet industry

In their presentations, Dr. Rowena Arzt (ZZF/WZF – Pet Industry Services) and Dr. Katrin Langner (IVH Industrial-Association of Pet Care Producers) highlighted key trends in the German pet market – from consumer behavior and regulatory developments to economic conditions. They also emphasized the value of international exchange for innovation and sustainable development in the industry.

During the company presentations, nine German industry representatives introduced their companies, services, and innovative products in the areas of pet food, accessories, and care, including BEWITAL petfood, Calysta, DARF, Dr.Clauder, PetCom, PLATINUM, SARIA, sera, and Tackenberg.

The event was rounded off by a lively panel discussion on the topic “From import to partnership: Success models for international brands in the Thai pet market.” Representatives of Thai companies such as Pet Club, Viva Premium Pet Stores, and the Thai Pet Product Industry Association (TPIA) showed how cooperation between international brands and local partners can be successfully structured.

Delegation trip strengthens German-Thai cooperation

On the very first day of the delegation trip, participants gained valuable insights into Thailand's economic environment through presentations by the GTCC, the German Embassy, and Germany Trade & Invest. Visits to the production facility of Nutrix Public Company Limited, an pet food producer, and the trading company PETClub rounded off the programme and offered valuable insights into local production, trade, and consumer trends. In addition to the conference and company visits, the German delegation participants benefited from individually arranged meetings with potential business partners throughout the week.

The delegation trip marked an important step for German-Thai cooperation in the pet sector. It showed once again how important international business platforms and network opportunities are – and how markets can be successfully tapped through dialogue, expertise, and shared values.
"As a specialist partner on this exciting trip, we would like to thank everyone involved for their valuable contribution to a very inspiring week for the international pet industry. We look forward to further cooperation within the framework of Interzoo 2026," says Dr. Rowena Arzt, Managing Director of International Pet Business IPB GmbH.

The next important industry event in Thailand is Petfair Southeast Asia from October 29-31, 2025. The Interzoo team will be represented there with its own booth and will intensify the dialogue with the Thai pet industry.
