WZF: A service company
Founded in 1966, WZF develops and markets high-quality services and platforms that contribute significantly to the economic and communicative development of the pet industry. It organizes Interzoo in conjunction with the ZZF, Zentralverband Zoologischer Fachbetriebe Deutschlands e.V. (German Pet Trade and Industry Association), the founder and honorary sponsor of the leading trade fair for the pet industry. Being the central platform for innovations and communication with regard to pet aspects worldwide, Interzoo stands out as a beacon within the sector. The ethical rules and standards of the ZZF concerning the welfare of pets are fully implemented in any new products and services developed by WZF.
By means of practical demonstrations on special topics, lectures on international markets and superordinate topics such as sustainability, WZF inspires exhibitors and trade visitors at Interzoo to further develop their own products and to explore new segments. WZF strategically plans and manages Interzoo.
The organizer develops the supporting programme, executes public relations and manages all aspects relevant to animal welfare, weighing in many years of experience, a high level of technical expertise and an excellent network.

The history of Interzoo
Interzoo’s success story began in 1950 at the annual ZZF association meeting. Despite being nationally oriented at first, the "Zoo Fair" was so well received by the ZZF-members that it became a permanent institution. In 1953 there were 15 exhibitors and 100 trade visitors. At changing locations in Frankfurt, Essen, Cologne and Hamburg, the event experienced continuous growth as the "Zoo Messe": the 1964 hosting of the fair counted already 70 exhibitors from 4 countries and 1,600 trade visitors from 17 countries.
From 1966 onwards, the newly founded WZF GmbH took over all business activities from the ZZF and thus also the organization of the fair, which has been operating under the name "Interzoo" since 1968. In that year, 16 percent of the exhibitors came from abroad and the first trade fair catalogue was published.
In the 1970s, the fair reached new dimensions. At the 15th Interzoo in 1978, 279 exhibitors took part, 34 percent from abroad. The companies attached more and more importance to a professional stand design. Increasingly, politics and the media also became aware of Interzoo. In response to the immensely increased importance of the exhibition, Interzoo then moved to a larger site.
In 1988, Interzoo organizer WZF partnered with NürnbergMesse, starting with Interzoo 1990 – an agreement which is still valid today.
In addition, as the industry’s leading exhibition, Interzoo has evolved into the most important communication platform of the pet industry that is frequently used by international associations such as the European Pet Organization (EPO), Ornamental Fish International (OFI) and International Pet Advisory Council (IPAC) to hold their conferences.
