Petfood Forum Europe focuses on sustainability, AI and processing innovations

The one-day conference co-locates with Interzoo in Nuremberg, Germany, on 11 May 2026.

Petfood Forum Europe has become an important part of the Interzoo week in Nuremberg.

Petfood Forum Europe will return to Nuremberg, Germany, on 11 May 2026, co-locating with Interzoo for another year of combined industry education and networking. The one-day conference takes place the day before the trade fair for pet supplies opens its doors.

The 2026 program will explore consumer trends and nutrition research shaping the European pet food and treat industry. Presentations from industry experts will focus on market trends, nutrition, ingredient innovation, processing technologies and supply chain management. The Petfood Forum Europe conference fee includes a multi-day pass to Interzoo, allowing attendees to access both events.

The conference will feature several expert presentations addressing key industry challenges and innovations. Just some of the topics covered include:

Pawsitive change: A holistic approach to sustainability in pet food. Dan Lorenzen-Schmidt, senior vice president of business development and innovation at BHJ, will examine how the pet food industry can move beyond narrow ingredient substitution toward a systemic, data-driven and collaborative approach to sustainability.

How rendered pet food ingredients compare to novel ones: What is most sustainable for the future? Anne Gaasbeek, team lead and senior consultant, and Gregorio Brussino, medior consultant at Mérieux NutriSciences | Blonk, will critically compare the environmental performance of rendered and novel ingredients in pet food and animal feed.

AI-assisted supplier auditing: Transforming pet food supply chain assurance. David Rosenblatt, DVM, head of learning and academic services at Sher Consulting and Training, will introduce AI-assisted supplier auditing, a new paradigm that enhances the effectiveness and consistency of traditional audit processes.

Enzymes advancing sustainability, digestibility and health in companion animal nutrition. Deni Kostelac, Ph.D., senior scientist at International Flavors & Fragrances, will discuss how targeted enzyme applications can unlock nutritional potential from fiber-rich substrates, reduce reliance on conventional protein sources and deliver health benefits, particularly for senior pets.

Optimizing pet food freeze-drying processes: Energy, hygiene and nutritional integrity. Magnus Jochumsen, senior project and sales manager at GEA Process Engineering, will explore recent engineering advancements in freeze-drying technology, including energy optimization techniques and design strategies that enable higher throughput and consistent product quality.
