Country Spotlight: USA

The pet market in the USA has always shown impressive growth figures in recent years and, with sales of over 130 billion US dollars, is one of the largest markets in the world. For numerous U.S. companies, the world's leading trade show Interzoo is an important market window - both as visitors and exhibitors.

Over 330 million people live in the U.S. 70 percent of U.S. households have at least one pet. These figures alone illustrate the size of the pet industry in the U.S., which was able to continuously increase its sales even during the pandemic and exceeded the 120 billion US dollar mark for the first time in 2021. Since dogs are the number one pet in the USA, unlike Germany where cats continue to be the favourite pet, the barking four-legged friend accounts for the majority of sales. The largest expenditures were incurred for doctor's visits, followed by food and toys. Across pets, spending increased for 35 percent of owners in 2021, and 57 percent reported spending about the same as the previous year.

It's no wonder, then, that the U.S. has been well represented at Interzoo for years – and highlighted with a country pavilion since 1990. Last year, a total of 71 U.S. exhibitors, including 33 exhibitors in the country pavilion, were welcomed at the Nuremberg Exhibition Center. This makes the USA the fourth-largest foreign exhibitor group at the world's leading trade show after Italy, Great Britain and the Netherlands. In addition, there were around 400 trade visitors from the U.S. joining Interzoo 2022.

Interzoo on tour: Our trade show appearances in the USA

Until the opening of Interzoo 2024 on May 7, the Interzoo team is a regular participant at pet industry events in the USA. This year's kick-off will be the Interzoo stand at the Global Pet Expo (March 22-24 in Orlando, Florida). Stand number 5861 will provide you with all the information you need about the world's leading pet industry trade show. After that, at the Petfood Forum (May 1-3, 2023 in Kansas City, Missouri), Interzoo will give young and expanding companies and their fresh ideas a suitable stage to make contacts in the U.S. petfood industry by help of the Interzoo Get Started Pavilion. In addition to presentation areas for the individual start-ups, the booth area (stand number 2804) also offers, among other things, a lounge for in-depth discussions with the companies and for making contact with the Interzoo team. Our on-site exhibition teams will be happy to help you plan your appearance at Interzoo 2024. We will also be happy to inform you about other opportunities to meet our team on site in upcoming newsletters.
