Interzoo Academy: Development of the European and Chinese Pet Industry

Zoomark International, Interzoo Academy and China International Pet Show (CIPS) have teamed up for the first time to provide the industry in an online seminar with a snapshot of how countries in Europe and Asia are responding to the pandemic. One session focuses on Italy, Germany and Europe and the other on China and Asia. The two parts of this online presentation can be downloaded from: www.interzoo-academy.com
The presentation by Yang Cheng, International Exhibition Co., Ltd. President China Great Wall, for CIPS, offers an insight into the market size and growth in China, the key characteristics of the pet industry, a description of pet owners and their preferences, and an outlook on future trends in East Asia.
The presentation on Europe offers an interesting insight into the changes in the European pet population in the period 2018 to 2020. Sales trends in pet food and pet care products, the development of distribution channels – from traditional pet shops to chains and wholesalers – and last but not least, the role and importance of e-commerce and electronic marketplaces, form the main content. The speakers are Luisa Bersanetti, Exhibition Manager BolognaFiere, for Italy, Dr Rowena Arzt, Director Exhibitions WZF, for Germany, and Paola Cane, Founder and CEO Mia Solution, for Europe. They also shed light on emerging megatrends, such as the increasing importance of sustainability, premium products, and the need for an omni-channel marketing strategy. Addressing the future, Europe expert Paola Cane identifies three aspects that will be of particular concern to the pet industry in the future: "It will mainly be about the topics 'Back to Nature', 'Back to Home' and 'Health and Wellness'. Humanisation, premiumisation and sustainability will be the centre of attention.”
Tip: The topic of sustainability is also explored in depth in the Sustainability Guidebook (PDF), which Interzoo Academy has developed in collaboration with Antwerp Management School (AMS). Under the “Research” section on interzoo-academy.com, you will find these and other studies, research results and scientific publications relevant to the pet industry.
