Dr Michael Stehr new Secretary General of ZZF
On 1 April 2019, Dr Michael Stehr became the Secretary General of ZZF (German Pet Trade & Industry Association), which is the honorary sponsor of Interzoo. Stehr has many years of experience in association work. The 52-year-old lawyer comes to ZZF from his role as Secretary General of the BVKJ (Professional Association of Paediatricians), where he represented the association in its dealings with government, the self-governing body of the medical profession and health funds, and advised members on legal issues relating to the practice of the profession and the operation of a medical practice. Previously, Stehr represented the interests of the VDB Physiotherapy Association, a professional and industry association for self-employed physiotherapists, for a period of more than 11 years as its Federal Director.
The father of three children also has a number of voluntary roles, including Vice-President of the German Naval Association and member of the board of the German Maritime Academy Foundation.
The Stehr family has had cats as pets for around 20 years, and for more than 10 years has enjoyed recreational horse-riding as a family. As a result, Dr Stehr is also committed to cohabitation with animals in his private sphere: “From time immemorial, keeping animals has been part of our cultural heritage. Nowadays, pets bring joy to our lives and encourage responsibility. The member companies of ZZF support millions of people in Germany through their wide range of services and sound advice on how to shape a positive coexistence of humans and animals.” In this spirit, he would like to “safeguard and strengthen the ability of ZZF to assert itself within and outside the association.” With this in mind, he has set himself the goal of stepping up the contact with members and promoting the association’s objectives across the industry and in the political and social realm. “I am looking forward to a successful collaboration,” says Stehr.
