Research has proven that pets need fish in their diet and nothing beats the taste and nutritional value of wild-caught seafood.
Here at Healthy Shores, we know your pet deserves nothing but the best, which is why we are committed to creating premium wet food for cats and dogs with the highest quality ingredients available to us.
Healthy Shores is a division of St. Jean’s Cannery and Smokehouse, one of the last remaining seafood canneries in British Columbia. St. Jean’s has been perfecting their canning process and the creation of their gourmet, wild-caught seafood products for people since 1961. In 2020 inspiration struck, and they branched out and developed Healthy Shores with the mission to create pet food with the same quality of care and ingredients that has been their signature for over 60 years.
In 2015 majority ownership was transferred to the Nuu-Chah-Nulth, five Indigenous nations with a long and proud history as stewards of the land and sea, making St. Jean’s Cannery, and Healthy Shores by extension, a majority First Nation owned business.
Together with a leading Canadian pet nutritionist, we’ve created a full range of products compliant with AAFCO regulation standards to ensure each bite is packed with powerful pacific nutrition. Our premium wet food for cats and dogs comes in four different proteins: Pacific Salmon, Albacore Tuna, Pacific Herring, and Pacific Hake, all sourced from the Canadian Pacific Ocean. Along with our wet food, we also carry our Nootka Pure line, which consists of three single ingredient meal toppers: Wild Salmon and Soft Bones, Wild Albacore Tuna and Soft Bones and Black Cod (or Sablefish) Liver Pate. Lastly, we have our Chesterman Chews, a jerky treat for dogs made with 100% Wild Pacific Salmon and enough water for processing.
All our products use wild-caught fish as the first, and main, ingredient and all our seafood is sourced from the cool, clean waters of the Pacific Ocean. With complete traceability from boat to can, a simple production code tells us where each fish used was caught, by which boat, and on what date.
Our products contain, at minimum, 81% human-grade fish and we complete every step of the process ourselves in our own federally regulated human seafood cannery on Vancouver Island. We never use any soy, wheat, grains, by-products, additives, or preservatives because your pet deserves nothing but nature’s best food from Canada’s west coast.
Since our launch in 2020, Healthy Shores has been making waves in oversea markets. We are currently successfully exporting to Taiwan, South Korea, and Singapore with India and Mexico coming later this year.
