Yumgrubs - Ancestral diet for your furry friend, like nature intended.
We are building Yumgrubs with a vision to become a leader within the natural premium pet food segment focusing on clean source proteins, natural ingredients and a tasty alternative to commercial pet food that is devoid of preservatives, fillers and other nasties. Starting with wet dog food, Yumgrubs is building a portfolio of products ranging from wet feed to dry kibbles, treats and more, all of which have the base clean protein from our own insect farms in Malaysia.

Our main ingredient, the Black Soldier Fly larvae (Hermetia Illucens) are nature's own superheroes. BSFLs are able to consume and break down any organic produce. They are not harmful to crops or other creatures - the adult flies don't even eat! (their adult lifespan of 5 days is only for mating). Yet, these tiny wriggly, yummy grubs have the power to provide concentrated nutrients.

Why Yumgrubs?
The increasing demand for animal-based protein cannot meet the number of agricultural farms there are. By 2050, our planet will need to sustain more than 9.5 billion humans, more than 2 billion pets, and more than 20 billion livestock animals. We want to be more responsible for the planet that we live in, at the same time eat quality food. Protenga believes that we can all be part of the solution to world nutrition. And the best way to do that is through sustainable agriculture and the use of edible insects. We believe that happier, healthier dogs and cats make better pet parents.

We want to be able to give our pets the best quality, but most commercial pet products on the market just don’t cut it.

The clean protein by Protenga is a logomark that verifies the authenticity of the ingredients and its origination story. Protenga is fully integrated across the value chain, from farm to fork that allows it full-control on all aspects of farming to formulation and through to delivery of the pet foods. Protenga is able to deliver the most impact through the ingredient story through to a highly personalized pet ownership experience.

About our Founder Leo Wein
Prior to Protenga, Leo led product and software engineering in a Singapore data science company. Inspired to realize a vision of food in balance with nature, Leo shifted from software bugs to real bugs, combining data-driven systems engineering with biology through Protenga's Smart Insect Farm. He holds degrees in both science and business from Amsterdam University College and the Free University of Amsterdam.
