The "pet product of the year 2021/2022" in the aquarium category is: sera siporax Nitrate-minus Professional. "With siporax Nitrate-minus Professional, we reconsidered the well proven", says Simon Gierlings, Director Sales and Marketing at sera. The classic siporax, a ring shaped biological filter medium made of sintered glass, serves as a basis. It is covered in a degradable biopolymer sphere that serves as a carbon source for the bacteria breaking down nitrate in the filter, and thus improves nitrification performance. Furthermore, the well considered construction of the sphere optimizes water flow and and thus improves substance transport into the inner siporax ring, which increases the holding time of the filter. The tubes and the spheres are being put together and packed in "DeinWerk", a workshop for people with psychic disabilities located only 2 kilometers from the sera headquarters.

The new biological filter medium is ideally suited for the first setup of new filters and can at the same time also be added for optimizing a running system. It can be combined with already present siporax products such as siporax Professional, siporax mini Professional and siporax pond Professional, and there as well improves pollutant breakdown by providing carbon.

The biologically degradable biopolymer spheres are entirely utilized by bacteria. The remaining siporax rings can of course remain in the filter and be topped up with new siporax Nitrate-minus.

sera siporax pond protect Professional is the newest pond filter medium within the siporax family by sera. It was developed especially for pond filter setups with strong water agitation. The special feature: an external ball surrounds and protects the internal siporax ring against abrasion. This combination allows placing the biological high performance filter medium in any kind of filter setup without additional precautions.

The robust protecting ball not only protects the sintered glass ring, at the same time it also improves its performance and prolongs the holding time of the filter. The water current is target directed and flows through the siporax ring even more effectively due to the unique shape and structure of the outer plastic ball. This results in maximum nutrient and oxygen introduction which increases the nitrification performance of the filter bacteria.

The new product sera siporax pond protect Professional allows all pond keepers to ideal filter their water biologically and prolong the holding time of the filter, because the unique three-dimensional tunnel structure with plenty of pores in the sintered glass ring is not only proven to provide ideal settling conditions for filter bacteria, it is now also excellently protected against abrasion due to the protecting ball.

The recommended amount of spheres required for your own pond depends on the fish stock present in the pond. It can be calculated very easily and quickly. sera siporax pond protect Professional is available in two package sizes. The smaller 10 liter (2.6 US gal.) package contains at least 210 spheres, and the big 50 liter (13 US gal.) package at least 1,050 spheres.

The sera X-Feeder sets new standards. A big 120 ml (4 fl. oz.) food supply provides the aquarium inhabitants with food regularly and reliably for a particularly long time. Up to four different times a day if desired. Manual feeding is possible additionally and at every time. The food amount can be adjusted in ten steps. The automatic feeder is filled easily and conveniently from above. Disassembly is not required to do so. Filling is particularly easy and safe due to the included paper funnel.

The food container sealing after every feeding is a special highlight of the sera X-Feeder. Rubber seals protect the food against rising moisture. Splash water protection provides additional safety. The automatic feeder is thus excellently and without aeration suitable also for crushed flakes.

Operation takes place easily and intuitively via four keys and a clear display.

Highly effective, well tolerated treatments and water conditioners for ornamental fish have been part of the sera range for years. Work on innovative products takes place continuously and including the newest scientific findings in the in-house laboratory. Two plant based water conditioners are the newest findings of the sera research team. They add to the already existing products of the Phyto med range: sera Phyto med Mycozid und sera Phyto med Catappa.

With sera Phyto med Catappa, sera offers a highly effective herbal product with an extract from Indian almond leaves (Terminalia catappa) for the aquarium hobby. It is up to 10 times more effective compared to normal extracts or merely adding Catappa leaves. It is suitable for treating bacterial diseases such as fin rot and supports recovery in case of infections by various bacteria such as Aeromonas hydrophila, Pseudomonas spp., Edwardsiella tarda, Plesiomonas shigelloides, Enterobacter spp., Shewanella putrefaciens, Streptococcus sp. and Staphylococcus sp. It is also effective against infections by fungi, spawn fungus as well as Trichodina sp., and it reduces the infestation by Gyrodactylus sp. and Dactylogyrus sp. If possible, a safe diagnosis should be obtained by a microscopic examination of skin or gill swabs.

sera Phyto med Catappa  provides support also for recovery after an overcome disease: Wounds heal more quickly and the risk of a secondary bacterial infection or a secondary infection by fungi is considerably reduced. Furthermore, the efficacy of other products from the Phyto med range is further improved by using sera Phyto med Catappa. It is available in 50 ml (1.69 fl.oz., sufficient for 400 liters / 106 US gal.) package size, and the dosage is 5 ml per each 40 liters (10.6 US gal.) of aquarium water. It is expected to become available in early July.

sera Phyto med Mycozid contains highly thyme oil from Thymus vulgaris L., Thymus zygis L. as an active agent, which makes it effective against external fungi such as Saprolegnia sp. or Achlya sp. in early stages as well as spawn fungus. The product is additionally suitably for accompanying the therapy in case of injuries or bacterial inflammations as to prevent secondary infections by fungi. If possible, a microscopic examination of skin or fin swabs should be carried out for obtaining a safe diagnosis. sera Phyto med Mycozid is available in 30 ml (1.02 fl.oz., sufficient for 300 – 400 liters / 79 – 106 US gal.) and 100 ml (3.38 fl.oz., sufficient for 1,000 – 1,300 liters / 264 – 343 US gal.) package sizes, and the dosage is 1 ml per each 40 liters (10.6 US gal.) of aquarium water. It is available immediately.

We are very happy! It is already the second time in a row that sera with their innovative products wins the "pet product of the year" reader election organized by the specialized trade magazine pet in the aquarium care category. After the sera Scaper Cubes in the previous year, now sera Nature products were elected as winners. The focus of the award is on the three newest Nature types from the aquarium, pond and terrarium care ranges: sera Insect Nature, sera Pond Insect Nature and sera Turtle Adult Nature.

But what makes the sera Nature range a favorite of the specialized trade? All food types are free from dyes and preservatives. At the same time, their compositions were optimized. Sustainable ingredients such as insect meal replace or add to the composition. This also applies for the three newest products. sera Insect Nature and sera Pond Insect Nature consist of 40% sustainable insect meal. Tenebrio larvae, whose breeding is particularly resource saving, provides all animal protein here.

sera Turtle Adult Nature is the food for tortoises and adult terrapins. Water lentils from sustainable production are the basis. They do not only provide an important amount of raw fibers but also determine the appropriate protein amount at an ideal calcium vs. phosphorus ratio. Since terrapins, and especially sliders, change their diet from carnivorous to herbivorous during their development, it is necessary to adjust their diet. sera Turtle Adult Nature considers the changing diet of the animals when they are adult, and contains purely veggie ingredients.

But they are not only characterized by sustainable ingredients but are part of an ecological overall concept. The sustainable concept extends from the raw materials via production up to packaging and thus has been thoroughly thought out. The food can consists of 35% sugar cane and underlines the sustainability of the product. Furthermore it is 100% recyclable and thus actively contributes to CO₂ reduction.
