Interzoo 2014: The pet industry’s most successful meeting place
Interzoo’s 33rd edition ended on Sunday, 1 June, with a convincing result. From 29 May to 1 June well above 37,000 visitors from over 120 countries, i.e. two percent more experts than two years ago, brought themselves up-to-date on everything the world has to offer in pet supplies at the international trade show in Nuremberg. About 1,700 exhibitors (up 10 percent) showed their range of pet food, grooming supplies and accessories on over 110,000 square meters of exhibition space. This impressively strengthens Interzoo’s claim as the largest meeting place of the international pet industry. At the Interzoo opening ceremony Federal Minister for Food and Agriculture, Christian Schmidt (MP), found clear words of appreciation for the responsible attitude pet industry in its efforts to raise awareness on species-appropriate pet keeping.
On the last day of the fair Interzoo’s promoter Wirtschaftsgemeinschaft Zoologischer Fachbetriebe GmbH (WZF) concluded with satisfaction: „It was striking how very positive the mood of exhibitors and visitors was this year and we could welcome even more trade visitors than expected. This year’s Interzoo also excelled with many high-quality and creative booth designs and the great involvement of the exhibitors”, says Herbert Bollhöfer, Managing Director of the exhibition promoter WZF GmbH. The trade visitors responded very positively not only to the numerous world premieres and innovations presented at the show, but also to the target-group-focused events and workshops. The new special show „Organic Petfood Showcase“ and the forum for executives „Interzoo Summit“ were very well accepted by the visitors to the show as well.
Norbert Holthenrich, President of the German Pet Trade & Industry Association (ZZF) stresses: “Interzoo is the pet industry’s most significant platform for establishing international contacts. At this year’s show one could sense that the economic situation has eased in most countries. Many exhibitors reported that they had successful talks with international decision-makers in an optimistic atmosphere and could initiate considerable business.”
This year exhibitors came from 63 countries to the world’s leading fair Interzoo to present their products for four-legged pets, birds, fish, horses and reptiles. Hans-Jochen Büngener, Chairman of the Interzoo Exhibition Committee, reported at the Interzoo trade press: “The proportion of exhibitors from abroad rose to 82 percent. Most exhibitors came from the following countries: Germany, China, USA, Italy, United Kingdom, Netherlands.” This means that the fair’s internationality went up yet again by three percentage points against 2012.
Number of international visitors increased
But not only the exhibitors from abroad were attracted to Interzoo, also 69 percent of the show’s visitors came from abroad: according to the preliminary figures of fair’s last day the share of international visitors increased by seven percent, while attendance from Germany dropped by eight percent. “Due to the increasing consolidation of the trade we expected an even more pronounced reduction and are therefore all the happier about the additional international visitors“, Hans-Jochen Büngener commented this development. Most trade visitors came from Germany, Italy, France, the United Kingdom, Spain, Poland and the Netherlands.
Strong echo in the media
Also the international media responded strongly to the trade show; about 400 journalists from more than 30 countries were accredited to report on the show, product innovations and the trends in the pet industry on the radio, on TV, in papers, online media and magazines.
