The exhibitors and the exhibition promoter Wirtschaftsgemeinschaft Zoologischer Fachbetriebe GmbH (WZF) were extremely pleased with the results at the end of the 31st Interzoo in Nürnberg on Sunday, 16 May 2010. With 4 per cent more exhibitors and 3 per cent more trade visitors from 117 countries compared with 2008, the International Trade Fair for Pet Supplies has impressively confirmed its claim to leadership as the most important international ordering platform for the global pet industry.
Altogether more than 38,000 trade visitors sourced information on pet food, grooming aids, accessories and services. “This result has exceeded our expectations. The excellent talks on the highly frequented stands and the high quality of the visitors from the trade ensured a good mood among exhibitors and visitors,” says Herbert Bollhöfer, Managing Director of the exhibition promoter WZF GmbH. 1,502 companies from 53 countries presented their innovations and trends for four-legged pets, ornamental birds, fish and reptiles for the four days of the exhibition on a record gross display area of over 90,000 square metres. The internationality of the exhibitors rose from 77 to 79 per cent. Besides Germany, the most exhibitors came from China, Italy, the Netherlands, Great Britain, the USA, France, Belgium, Spain and Poland. “The overwhelming majority of the exhibitors were very satisfied with the ordering activity of the visitors. The companies report many new contacts and successful business transactions,” says Hans-Jochen Büngener, Chairman of the Interzoo Exhibition Committee. Interzoo as hub of the international pet world once again generated impetus for the industry: “Nowhere else can traders find such a comprehensive overview of the market for all product groups in combination with a first-class trend barometer than here at Interzoo,” concludes Klaus Oechsner, President of the German Pet Trade & Industry Association (ZZF), the honorary sponsor of Interzoo. The innovative power of the exhibitors with their many new products and improvements also contributed to the good mood at the exhibition. This year’s new products at Interzoo came particularly from the high-tech, health and sustainability segments. In the pet food segment, the exhibitors showed many new developments and improvements in food supplements, dietary food and special food, for example, for animals allergic to certain foods. The exhibitors in the aquaria and terraria segments presented modern technologies such as special energy-saving lights and heating lamps. Other companies presented numerous new products made of natural and recyclable materials. “In contrast to other industries, the international pet supplies industry is relatively independent of the economic situation. Pet lovers still tend to ask for products of reliable quality for their pets even in difficult economic times,” says Klaus Oechsner, which he explains with the steady to growing worldwide interest in keeping pets. According to the market research institute Euromonitor, the European pet industry turned over 21.7 billion euros last year and the worldwide market for pet supplies reached a sales volume of some 56.8 billion euros. “The development of the worldwide pet supplies market in the coming years will also be linked to the importance of pets in the respective countries. We observe a global trend to a greater sense of responsibility for animals and the conditions under which they are kept, from which a sense of responsibility for the living conditions of pets and people develops. The promoter of Interzoo is Wirtschaftsgemeinschaft Zoologischer Fachbetriebe GmbH (WZF), which has appointed NürnbergMesse GmbH for the organization of the exhibition.
